Boy Scouts

Nelson Boy Scout Troop 530, chartered to the Nelson Congregational Church, meets every Moonday in Fuller Hall of the Nelson Congregational Church at 7:00 pm. The troop was founded by Jim Jarvela in 1989, and boasts probably the largest percentage of Eagle Scouts of any troop in the area.

The troop welcomes all boys ages 11 through 17 to visit the meeting and learn about the program. The troop camps out once a month, rain or shine, and participates in one week-long canoe trip or excursion each summer. Though started in Nelson, the troop currently includes Scouts from Gilsum, Harrisville, Greenfield and New Ipswich (!!) as well as Nelson. Many are drawn by the troops focus on fun and adventure planned and implemented by the Scouts themselves.

Troop 530 Scoutmaster is Richard Crowe; he is assisted by Assistant Scoutmasters Paul Giaocmo, Dean Huber and Steve Kouropoulos. All questions may be directed to Rich or any of the assistant Scoutmasters, as well as committee chair Earl Creasey.
